Save Your Roof Problems Shingle Repair Process

Hire a professional to inspect and clean your roof, their first had knowledge means they know what to look for in roof cleaning

Tree limbs

We all know about Atlanta weather and the extensive damage trees can cause during storms. Make sure tree limbs don’t touch the roof. If they do, they can easily scrape over the shingles and loosen the protective granules. This damage will severely reduce the life of a roof. Trim trees close to the house to avoid any limbs touching the roof surface. If you need a professional licensed and insured company to help you in the Atlanta Metro area, contact SRC, don’t attempt to remove heavy limbs by yourself.

Select Roofing Consultants knows what to look for in a roof cleaning and the proper way to fix and prevent problems

Prevent damage to your roof by shaving branches and trimming tree limbs. When large amounts of leaves and branches gather on a roof they can cause damage and even collect pockets of water.

Leaves and Pine Needles

A little leaf or a few pine needles are no cause for concern. However, if they collect and become heavy from moisture, they need to be taken off the roof. Anything that traps moisture will cause mildew to form, will block gutters, or will cause extra weight on the roof. A rake or air blower can be used to clear the roof, but take care not to damage the shingles. Atlanta’s climate promotes mildew and knowing this should prompt homeowners and building owners to commit to regular inspections. Roof Cleaning, Roof inspection, and Roof Repairs should be followed up by an early Fall Inspection prior to Winter. If summer storms occur, we also recommend an intermittent inspection to prevent any unnecessary repairs.

Cutting back trees and removing leaves will reduce moss growth. Removing it will allow sunlight to dry up the moisture that helps moss to thrive. While there are chemicals available on the market to get rid of moss, the runoff can cause damage to plants. Another solution is to add nail zinc or copper strips to the ridgeline. When rain washes across, these solutions prevent the growth of the environment where moss prosper.

Take Care of Your Roof to prevent major roof repairs

Gutter’s should be cleaned regularly and avoid using harsh chemicals to rid of growths like mold because they can damage plants and grass.

Discolored streaks on a roof indicate there is mold, algae, or fungus, which can eat away at the roofing material and, ultimately, cause leaks. A treatment of chlorine bleach or copper sulfate solution applied with a garden sprayer can kill the mold. Do not power wash shingles! It can dislodge granules and cause premature shingle failure. Instead of causing any damage we offer Algae-resistant shingles. These shingles have a specially formulated granule that inhibits algae growth, in addition to shingles with Stain-Guard Protection.

Gutter damage

Heavy snow from the winter season can result in gutter damage while remaining fall leaves and debris can lead to clogged gutters. Before the springtime rain, check to make sure water can flow smoothly through the drains and fix any loose nails that are preventing the gutters from sitting tightly along the roof line.
