5 Tips on Roofing
If you are looking for a contractor to repair or replace the roof on your home, there are a few questions you should ask upfront. Here are 5 tips on roofing that we recommend from SRC/ Select Roofing Consultants.
1. Can I get an estimate in writing?
Keeping in mind that an oral estimate is just that–a rough approximation of what the actual cost may be–you need to get a written one from your roofing contractor. Don’t let hidden costs creep up after the fact. Hindsight is always 20/20, so, before you sign the contract, take a good long look at that written estimate and make sure it includes everything you want taken care of, from the removal of the old roofing materials to all the labor and materials involved. At SRC/Select Roofing Consultants there is no hidden fees and or guessing, we let you know upfront what to expect.
2. What are the best roofing materials for my particular roof?
The types of roofing materials you should consider for your home will depend on a few factors, and should take into consideration the area of the country where you live. What might be good for Milwaukee winters may not be best for Atlanta summers. Cost is certainly a factor, and if it is, please state this upfront. The most common roofing material in an affordable range in Georgia is asphalt.
Some types of available roofing materials are:
- Asphalt
- Slate
- Clay
- Concrete
- Cedar
- Metal
- Composite
3. Will you remove the existing roof and haul away the debris and is that included in the contract and estimate?
You don’t want the contractor to simply shingle over a roof that may appear OK on the surface but contains rotting wood underneath. Make sure they pull up shingles and give your old roof a thorough inspection. If you need a full replacement, make sure this is included in the estimate and the contract you sign. Ask about the hauling away of any debris. Is that included in the price, if not, how much?
4. What is the warranty on the new roof?
At SRC/ Select Roofing Consultants we offer a 10 Year Roof Warranty and on roof repairs it depends on the actual repair and will be discuss on site.
5. Are you a licensed roofing contractor in the state of Georgia?
Different states may have different requirement for licensing contractors. We are licensed and insured by the state of Georgia for residential and commercial roofing projects. Most of all, we are Errors and Omissions insured.
